Sister taxa: Delphinus attenuatus, Stenella attenuata, Stenella clymene, Stenella coeruleoalba, Stenella dubia, Stenella frontalis, Stenella longirostris

Type specimen: USNM 182930, a partial skull (partial subadult cranium). Its type locality is Lee Creek Mine, Yorktown Formation, which is in a Zanclean estuary/bay sandstone in the Yorktown Formation of North Carolina.

Ecology: aquatic piscivore-carnivore

Distribution: found only at Lee Creek Mine, Yorktown Formation
