Sister taxa: Ailuropoda baconi, Ailuropoda melanoleuca, Ailuropoda microta, Ailuropoda wulingshanensis
Type specimen: AMNH 18385, a mandible (right lower jaw with p4-m3+left m3). Its type locality is Yen-ching-kao, which is in a Pleistocene/Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in China.
Distribution: found only at Yen-ching-kao
