Sister taxon: Gobiatherium minutum

Type specimens:

  • Gobiatherium mirificum: A. M. 26624, a skull (a complete and nearly perfect skull). Its type locality is 7 Miles West of Camp Margetts (1930 AMNH Gobiatherium type locality), which is in an Arshantan terrestrial claystone in the Arshanto Formation of China.
  • Gobiatherium major: IVPP V 5712, a mandible. Its type locality is Ulan Bulak, which is in an Eocene fluvial siliciclastic in China.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore

Distribution:

• Eocene of China (5 collections), Kazakhstan (1), Kyrgyzstan (2)

Total: 8 collections each including a single occurrence
