Where: Ecuador (1.0° N, 79.6° W: paleocoordinates 0.6° N, 78.0° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Angostura Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)
• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From the Angostura Fm, which overlies the Viche Formation, and is overlain by the lower Onzole Formation. AGE: The Angostura Formation is Late Miocene age (planktic foraminiferal zone N. 16). It is apparently the Ecuadorian equivalent of the Gatun Formation of Panama. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: The formation is largely barren, but in a few places there are lenses or interbeds filled with finely preserved fossils.
• formation-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified siliciclastic sediments
Size class: macrofossils
