Top of bluff on south side of Current River (Cambrian of the United States)

Also known as Reef 3270

Where: Shannon County, Missouri (37.2° N, 91.3° W: paleocoordinates 22.6° S, 87.2° W)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Eminence Formation, Trempealeauan (492.5 - 485.4 Ma)

• On the geologic map of the Eminence and Cardareva quadrangles (Bridge, 1930), this area is mapped as Van Buren Formation. Chert masses of the Van Buren do occur higher on the hill; within the limits of the base map provided by a 15' quadrangle, the map by Bridge is accurate. However, the trilobites Calvinella ozarkensis Walcott, Plethometopus sp., and Stenopilus latus Ulrich occur, along with the gastropods Dirhachopea sp. and Taeniospira sp. All of these fossils are characteristic of the Emi-nence Dolomite throughout the Ozark Dome region.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; lithified chert

• Strata are in pockets of the Ozark Uplift.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: original calcite, replaced with silica
