Maaseik Well (49W0220) - 201 m (Berada Fm) (Miocene of Belgium)

Where: Belgium (51.1° N, 5.8° E: paleocoordinates 51.3° N, 4.9° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Berada Formation, Tortonian (11.6 - 7.2 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Berada Fm, which is overlain by the Kieseloolith Fm (Pliocene). Equivalent to the Deurne Mbr and Dessel Mbr of the Diest Fm. THICKNESS: From <1 m thick horizon, within core. AGE: Upper Tortonian (early Late Miocene), based on dinoflagellate biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From lower part of core.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified, medium-grained, shelly/skeletal sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Not reported in available text, but apparently shallow marine, siliciclastic setting.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Medium sand, with skeletal debris. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by G.S. Belgium in 1980

Collection methods: bulk, core, sieve,

• COLLECTORS: Geological Survey of Belgium (1980). REPOSITORY: IRScNB/KBIN collection, Dept. of Paleontology, section Invertebrate Paleontology, Geological Survey of Belgium. COMMENTS: Sieved on a 0.5 mm mesh and all identifiable fragments of mollusca were collected.
