Vengeriyskaya Suite - Schmidt Peninsula, Okha District, Sakhalin (Miocene of Russian Federation)

Where: Russian Federation (54.2° N, 142.6° E: paleocoordinates 54.5° N, 141.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Vengeriyskaya Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Vengeriyskaya suite of the "lower Nutov" horizon, which lies above the "Okobykay" (Late Miocene) and below the " upper Nutov" (Early Pliocene) horizons. THICKNESS: Total thickness of unit is 700 m. AGE: Late Miocene, on the basis of classification into the "Lower Nutov" horizon. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Composite checklist for the "formation" in this area.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; poorly lithified, sandy claystone and poorly lithified, sandy siltstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Not stated in text; assumed to be cool-water coastal setting on the basis of faunal composition.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Clays and siltstones with sandstone interbeds. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithified, assumed on the basis of age and facies.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Unknown, presumably Lautenschläger or Slodkewitsch (c. 1938). REPOSITORY: Unknown repository.
