Pedrera de S'Onix (Pliocene to of Spain)

Where: Majorca (Mallorca), Spain (39.6° N, 3.3° E: paleocoordinates 39.6° N, 3.1° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Pliocene to Late/Upper Pliocene (3.6 - 0.8 Ma)

• Paleomagnetochronology suggests an age between 1.8 Ma and 1.64 Ma. Segui (2001) states that the outcrop is located "near the Pliocene-Pleistocene boundary or in the Lower Pleistocene". The three levels of karstic infilling are named according to Alcover et al (1981).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: karst; poorly lithified, red, conglomeratic siltstone

• "reddish silts with heterometric subangular pebbles and bone remains partially cemented by calcium carbonate" (Segui 2001). The sediment is said to be "soft".

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: the material described by Segui (2001) is said to come from "several excavations carried out in the 1970s".
