LACMIP #7405 (Eocene of the United States)

Where: Ventura County, California (34.3° N, 118.7° W: paleocoordinates 36.8° N, 101.7° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Llajas Formation, Ypresian (56.0 - 47.8 Ma)

• Turritella bed. From lower Llajas Formation, lower "Domengine" stage, lower CP12a calcareous nannoplankton zone, Ypresian stage, Lower Eocene, C22n chron.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shoreface; lithified, bioturbated sandstone

• Listed as "shallow marine transgressive" - as from middle of unit, which appears to be transgressive, and below the apparent "maximum flooding/starvation zone", the shoreface environment is chosen for this collection, rather than shallow water indet.
• Alternating laminated and bioturbated sandstones grading into muddy siltstone.
