Eitensheim (Miocene to of Germany)

Where: Bayern, Germany (48.8° N, 11.3° E: paleocoordinates 49.0° N, 9.7° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Burdigalian to Burdigalian (20.4 - 13.8 Ma)

• Upper Fresh-water Molasse, Lower Tortonian, Upper Helvetian is also possible.

•This collection is probably at the Burdigalian/Langhian boundary. "Tortonian" was used in a different context in the eastern Paratethys.

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; shelly/skeletal lignite and sandy marl

• Under a layer of gastropod-rich loess, 1,5 m in thickness, is a layer of greenish-gray fine sand and marl of the upper Fresh-water molasse, 3 m in thickness. About 0,5 m below the loess, intercalated in the sand, there is a 20 cm thick layer of lignite, rich in gastropod shells. Mammal fossils derived from this lignite.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: bulk, sieve,
