Warun Ponds Quarry (Oligocene of Australia)

Also known as Blue Circle Southern Cement Ltd.

Where: Victoria, Australia (38.2° S, 144.3° E: paleocoordinates 52.7° S, 142.2° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

When: Warun Ponds Limestone Member (Jan Juc Formation), Chattian (28.1 - 23.0 Ma)

• Tertiary (Janjukian), laterally equivalent to the Point Addis Limestone

•Biostratigraphic evidence and foraminiferal 87Sr/86Sr isotope ratios [150-152], indicate and age of 25.7–23.9 Ma for the holotype [102]. The base of the Point Addis Limestone has been dated to 24.2 Ma (+1.3, -1.2 Ma) [138], whereas the age of its top is the same as for the Jan Juc Marl and constrained by the contact with the overlying Puebla Formation (23.9 Ma) [151]. (Marx & Fordyce, 2015)

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sediments

• bryozoal calcarenite with interbedded marls

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original phosphate

Collection methods: surface (in situ),
