• coordinate estimated from map
When: Maikop Group, Rupelian (33.9 - 28.1 Ma)
• Maikop Group, most likely Lower Mai- kop beds, which are uppermost Rupelian or lowermost Chattian in age. Riabinin (1938) reported the holotype of Mirocetus as having come from the upper Maikop beds; however, Mchedlidze (1964) attributes this to two errors by Riabinin (1938): (1) he did not recognize that cetaceans are derived from multiple levels in the Maikop Group and (2) he assumed that the holotype of Mir- ocetus came from the most productive horizon, which is either latest Oligocene or earliest Miocene in age.
