Where: Fresno County, California (35.9° N, 120.2° W: paleocoordinates 35.2° N, 115.9° W)

When: Temblor Formation, Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• Sandstone, more fossiliferous towards top, from 70-80 ft above Turritella ledges (D-1059). From faunizone B (zone 3) (for that reason assigned an middle Miocene age).

Environment/lithology: coastal; coarse-grained, brown sandstone and gray, red siltstone

• Deposited in partially enclosed bay. The fauna has a preponderance of shallow-water forms and many of the genera are characteristic of tropical or subtropical climate.
• Massive, dark brown, coarse-grained sandstone with layers of gray button bearing sandstone or orange and gray silty lenses, more fossiliferous towards top.
