• Kemp calls the Selsey a "division", Hooker, 1996 calls it a formation. This bed is within the "Pinna Bed" and has a thickness of 2.40 m.

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; glauconitic, silty, sandy claystone and shelly/skeletal, gray, green, silty, sandy claystone

• The Selsey formation is fine silty and sandy, glauconitic clay. This bed is grey-green stiff sandy silty clays with well-preserved bivalves throught, common small gastropods and in the upper part the small fauna is often concentrated together with otoliths in a line of thin sandy lenses.
