• Kemp calls the Selsey a "division", Hooker, 1996 calls it a formation. This bed is within the "Pinna Bed" and has a thickness of 1.80 m.

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; glauconitic, silty, sandy claystone and concretionary, glauconitic, shelly/skeletal, brown, gray, green, sandy claystone

• The Selsey formation is fine silty and sandy, glauconitic clay. This bed is grey-brown stiff sandy clay, slightly slickensided at top, fine glauconite present, with large flat-oval concrestions in upper part, many of which surround large colonies of Pinna sp. small molluscs are common throughout. Some shells concentrated in small green sand pockets.
