• Kemp calls the Selsey a "division", Hooker, 1996 calls it a formation. This bed is within the "Miocardia Bed" and has a thickness of 0.60m.

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; glauconitic, silty, sandy claystone and concretionary, glauconitic, silty, calcareous, carbonaceous sandstone

• The Selsey formation is fine silty and sandy, glauconitic clay. This bed is grey-blue silty sand with fine glauconite, large (1 dm diam) calcareous concretions often containing bored drifted logs near the upper contact.
