• Kemp calls the Selsey a "division", Hooker, 1996 calls it a formation. This bed is within the "Amusium corneum Bed" and has a thickness of 0.64 m.

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; glauconitic, silty, sandy claystone and glauconitic, shelly/skeletal, gray, blue, sandy claystone

• The Selsey formation is fine silty and sandy, glauconitic clay. This bed is blue-grey sandy clay, with fine glauconite becoming more sandy and glauconitic near upper contact; fragile molluscs throughout.
