• Kemp calls the Selsey a "division", Hooker, 1996 calls it a formation. This bed is within the "Silt Bed" and has a thickness of 0.99m.

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; glauconitic, silty, sandy claystone and bioturbated, glauconitic, pebbly, shelly/skeletal, silty, carbonaceous sandstone

• The Selsey formation is fine silty and sandy, glauconitic clay. This bed is dark green-grey silty glauconitic sand with Nipa & lignite fragments, mollusc moulds and vertebrate remains at outcrop, intensely bioturbated at upper contact with rare black pebbles
