Also known as Thebes Formation, Gebel Gurnah

Where: Egypt (25.7° N, 32.6° E: paleocoordinates 15.8° N, 27.2° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Ypresian (56.0 - 47.8 Ma)

• The unit consists of a 290 m (951 ft) thick limestone section with many bands of flint concretions. The formation is Ypresian in age at the type locality.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore shelf; lithified, concretionary, cherty/siliceous limestone

• Probably represents the open sea facies of this age in Egypt (as opposed to reefal facies of the Farafra Formation).
• Limestone with many bands of flint concretions.
