El Cobre Canyon (Cutler Formation) ( of the United States)

Also known as El Cabre (Cope Collection)

Where: Rio Arriba County, New Mexico (36.3° N, 106.3° W: paleocoordinates 0.7° N, 36.1° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Cutler Formation, Virgilian (303.4 - 298.9 Ma)

• Based on the biostratigraphic information provided by two floral taxa, Alethopteris serlii and Neuropteris scheuchzeri, Fracasso (1980) argued for an Upper Pennsylvanian Missourian assignment, but Berman et al. (1997), while acknowledging a Late Pennsylvanian age, suggested that the beds of the canyon floor are latest Virgilian in age.

Environment/lithology: fluvial; siliciclastic sediments

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the AMNH, FMNH, MCZ, YPM
