Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; lithified lime mudstone

• General for this succession of communities: "Unlike the Carnic Alps, the Silurian-Devonian of Sardinia displays a far less variegated facies picture, being almost exclusively developed in shallow to deeper pelagic environments, with the minor exception of the Emsian Mt. Padenteddu mud mound."

•For this community: "A depth of 70-80 m is inferred for the first growth stage of this 'mud-mound'; low energy conditinos are suggested by the presence of abundant llime mud and well-preserved pelmatozoan stems and calyces, while weak currents could have produced the telescoped fabrid, that is, the interpenetration of conical 'tentaculitids'. Very shallow conditions reuired for the final phase (not lower than 20 m), where currents and wave motion could affect the bottom. An inner shelf BA 3 position is suggested."
