Eurypterid-Associated Biota of the Pittsford Shale, Pittsford, New York (Silurian of the United States)

Where: New York (43.1° N, 77.5° W: paleocoordinates 29.2° S, 41.4° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Pittsford Shale Member (Vernon Shale Formation), Ludlow (427.4 - 423.0 Ma)

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal; pyritic, black shale and green mudstone

• "The lithology and associated biota appear to indicate a very shallow, marginal marine setting, possibly lagoonal and probably brackish...A BA 1 assignment is reasonable."

•2003:04:06 SEP environmental call based on liimited lithologic description and overall context of Salina Formation (to which Vernon has been refered to as member by some authors). NOTE: stratigraphically near evaporites and within a restricted basin; periodically experiences more normal marine conditions with increased tidal flushing

• "Black shale with pyrite in sequence of green, friable mudstone, olive calcareous mudstone, and argillaceous dolomite (below), and green and red mudstone (above)."
