Ptenophyllid Assemblage of the Lochkovian in the Appalachian belt (Devonian of the United States)

Where: Pennsylvania (43.0° N, 76.0° W: paleocoordinates 34.4° S, 34.8° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: Manlius Limestone Formation, Lochkovian (419.2 - 410.8 Ma)

• Assemblage is known from a range of formations in Pridolian through Lochkovian strata, but the understanding of Lochkovian elements is based mainly on Manlius Limestone.

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; carbonate

• Stromatoporoid biostromes, interpreted as very shallow, subtidal, separating lagoonal area from somewhat deeper, more normal but still shallow shelf with moderately diverse shelly fauna. Rugosans occur intergrown with and in between the stromatoporoids that create the framework.

Collection methods: Emphasis here is on the rugosans. Tabulates, brachiopods, stromatoporoids, high-spired gastropods, and ostracodes are also present.
