Where: Sayreville County, New Jersey (40.5° N, 74.3° W: paleocoordinates 34.0° N, 38.5° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• hand sample-level geographic resolution
When: Complexiopollis-Atlantopollis pollen zone, Woodbridge Clay Member (Raritan Formation), Cenomanian (100.5 - 93.9 Ma)
• The pollen zone is dated as middle to possibly late Cenomanian in age.
Environment/lithology: fluvial; argillaceous, silty sandstone
•The upper part of the Woodbridge Clay Member consists of horizontally stratified interbedded sequences of thin, dark silts and light sands.
Size class: microfossils
Preservation: original sporopollenin
Reposited in the USGS
Collection methods: bulk, chemical, hydrochloric, hydroflouric
• Samples were prepared for palynological examination by standard chemical maceration techniques, followed by heavy liquid separation in zinc bromide. Sample residues were mounted in glycerine jelly on slides, and the slides are stored in the palynology laboratory, U.S. Geological Survey, Reston Virginia.
