M. laevigata Assoc. of facies 5 and 6, Upper Bringewood Beds, Welsh Borderland (Silurian of the United Kingdom)

Where: England, United Kingdom (52.0° N, 3.0° W: paleocoordinates 27.9° S, 13.0° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: Upper Bringewood Formation, Gorstian (427.4 - 425.6 Ma)

• Age assignment based on ref. 6658.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal grainstone and shale

• Present in facies 5 and 6. Interpreted as shallow shelf with high energy. F6 includes shoal lime sand. Carbonate interruption of shoaling upwards sequence of terrigenous sediments. Bank system.
• Facies 5: biocalcarenite with calcilutite matrix and shows gradations from mud-supported to grain-supported texture. Pellets, crinoid ossicles, brachiopod fragments, sponge spicules. Thin tabular beds throughout. Shale layers 1 cm thick or less between limestone beds.

•Facies 6: Crinoideal biosparrudite and coarse-grained biocalcarenite. Thin shale layers, but carbonates contain little clay. Biosparrudites grain-supported. Cross lamination of both planar and trough form.

Size class: macrofossils
