Environment/lithology: lithified, lenticular, coarse-grained, shelly/skeletal, black, argillaceous, cherty/siliceous packstone

• Limestone, coarse-grained crinoidal to very fine-grained ; black, weathering dark gray ; lenticular masses of coarse limestone embedded in layers of argil laceous limestone and flint as much as 6 inches thick, lens on traverse about 20 feet long and 5 feet thick ; beds of finer-grained material deflected by coarse lenses. Sample B-1068, 2.6 per cent insoluble residue of white to black silt with silicified fossil fragments ; texture of fossil fragments, generally about 3 mm in diameter but reaching 7 mm in diameter, in matrix of very fine-grained calcite.

•Limestone, very fine-grained ; black, weathering black ; beds 2 inches to 2 feet thick, shale weathering purple buff on bedding planes ; unit becomes more shaly toward top and weathers lighter gray toward top ; chert-free.
