• “The Upper Plattenkalk Formation is composed of well-bedded or platy, dark coloured, bituminous limestones alternating with black calcareous shales. Skeletal grains are the most important constituent of the sediment while terrigenous components are usually below 3%.” (Hartkopf-Fröder 2004)
