Kakara fm. - general (Miocene of Uganda)

Also known as ETE Locality 1182, Kakara fm. - general,

Where: Uganda (1.0° N, 30.5° E: paleocoordinates 0.7° N, 29.9° E)

When: Kakara Formation (Albertine Group), Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• ETE dating method: time_unit, ETE age comment: Max age = ~12 Ma based on fauna. Min age = ~9 Ma based on fauna.

•Part of Albertine Group and Albertine rift was initiated around 12.5 Ma (Pickford et al. 1993). Van Damme and Pickford 1999 also suggest laste miocene age based on Molluscan assemblages. Revised stratigraphy of the Albertine Graben rift also proposes a Late Miocene age for the Kakara Fm (Lukaye et al. 2016)
