5 Road (Ordovician to of Australia)

Where: Tasmania, Australia (42.7° S, 146.4° E: paleocoordinates 10.0° N, 166.2° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Mt. Field Siltstone Member (Florentine Valley Limestone Formation), Lancefieldian to Lancefieldian (484.3 - 473.1 Ma)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shoreface; lithified, glauconitic, calcareous sandstone and siltstone

• Lithology varies somewhat with locality and stratigraphic position within the formation; lithology generally described as a mixture of quartzose and calcareous siltstone, impure nodular limestone, chert, and minor glauconitic shale. Represents the base of a transgressive sequence that continues into overlying Gordon Limestone Group; base in most areas is coarse quartz sandstone with worm borrows and snails, ripple marks, load casts, and trough cross-bedding.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
