Cabeco da Vaca Bed 9 (Jurassic of Portugal)

Also known as Alqueidao da Serra

Where: Porto de Mos, Portugal (39.6° N, 8.8° W: paleocoordinates 33.6° N, 2.0° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Cabacos Formation, Oxfordian (163.5 - 157.3 Ma)

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; gray mudstone

• The sampled facies of micritic limestone with brackish to restricted marine faunal elements suggest that the Cabeço da Vaca turtle lived in a low energy, probably lagoonal environment, located near a large tidal flat with fine-grained micritic sedimentation connected with inner sectors of a carbonate shelf.
• The stratigraphic section of the quarry consists of 18 massive beds of micritic, gray to dark gray limestones, mostly mudstone to wackstone, with a rather scarce and low diversity macrofossil content

Size class: macrofossils
