Cerros Negros Locality (Pleistocene of the United States)

Where: Arizona (32.5° N, 110.6° W: paleocoordinates 32.5° N, 110.6° W)

When: Middle Pleistocene (0.8 - 0.1 Ma)

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified, massive, pebbly, brown, white, conglomeratic, calcareous marl

• A pale-brown, pebble-cobble conglomerate with a calcareous silty matrix and cement is the basal unit (<1 m thick). This basal addition, radiocarbon dates have been established. conglomerate grades upward into a pale-brown silty, clayey marl (±2.5 m thick) overlain by a white, massive marl (±1.5 m)

•containing lesser amounts of clay than the lower marl. Snails are >96 localities in Arizona (Saunders, 1970; Agenbroad and in the upper 3 m of marls, and the total thickness of 4 m has been dated at 27,000 to 12,000 years before present.

Size class: macrofossils

• Mandible with two last molars of Mammuthus Columbi. Mandibular tooth and fragments of enamel of Mammut americanum. Mollusks were recovered.
