• 'Hastings Beds' now a subgroup that includes the Ashdown Formation, the Wadhurst Clay Formation and the Tunbridge Wells Sand Formation.

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; ferruginous claystone

• "above them the mass was yellowish-brown clay, with micaceous sandstone occurring occasionally; and below the clay were large tabular masses of the calcareous grit. Immediately beneath this stone the bones were impacted in ferruginous and marly clay; under this were veins of blue clay, containing selenite."
