Bezuidenhouts Pass, Cyrbasiodon type locality (Permian to of South Africa)

Where: KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (28.5° S, 29.2° E: paleocoordinates 65.0° S, 16.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Beaufort Group, Wuchiapingian to Wuchiapingian (259.9 - 252.2 Ma)

• Stratigraphic position of this specimen is uncertain. Broom (1931) identified it as Cistecephalus Assemblage Zone, which is consistent with the identification of Cyrbasiodon as a junior synonym of Procynosuchus. However, Kitching (1977) listed localities in this area as mostly Lystrosaurus AZ, and suggested that this specimen might come from the Daptocephalus exposures in the nearby area.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
