Where: San Juan, Argentina (31.6° S, 67.4° W: paleocoordinates 40.6° S, 30.3° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
When: Quebrada del Barro Formation (Marayes Group), Norian (228.0 - 208.5 Ma)
• A recent stratigraphic revision (Martinez et al., 2013 (ref. 58021)- supplementary information) proposes that the upper horizon of the Quebrada del Barro containing Leyasaurus marayensis should be classified as a separate stratigraphic unit from the other (lower) horizons of the Quebrada del Barro. The other horizons are assigned to Norian age based on Sphenotitan leyasi occurring in the same horizons as several other Triassic-affinity species. These other species are known from the Norian Los Colorados Fm., which was recently dated using magnetostratigraphy.
