Also known as YPA040

Where: Panama, Panama (9.1° N, 79.7° W: paleocoordinates 8.1° N, 77.3° W)

• coordinate stated in text

When: basal upper Member (Culebra Formation), Aquitanian (23.0 - 20.4 Ma)

Environment/lithology: fluvial-deltaic; sandstone

• Deltaic. The depositional environments of the upper member of the Culebra Fm. range in depth from shallow subtidal (<5m) to perhaps as deep as the mid-outer shelf (50-100 m).
• The base of the upper member is defined by alternating beds of sandstone and siltstone that conformably overlie the Emperador Limestone. The sandstone beds become thinner and finer up-section, whereas the interbeddedcontains transported corals and abundant molluscs. The siltstone

•beds contain abundant foraminifera, molluscs, echinoids, shark teeth and burrows siltstone beds become thicker.
