Coniproetus-Protocymostrophia Community, Prague Basin (Devonian of Czech Republic)

Where: Czech Republic (50.0° N, 14.1° E: paleocoordinates 45.0° S, 52.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Kotys Member (Lochkow Formation), Lochkovian (419.2 - 410.8 Ma)

• Kotys LImestone, mostly middle and late Lochkovian in age.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal, gray grainstone

• "According to Chlupac (1983) the fragmentation of trilobite exoskeletons and coarse bioclastic layers in crinoidal limestones reflects a high-energy environment...within the shallow, subtidal BA 3 position. The locally flourishing association of large, free-lying brachiopods indicates a locally protected, quiet, shallow environment...in the shallower part of BA 3...Some interlayers with [Dicoelosia, Skenidioides, and Dalejina] may reflect a temporary deepening of the sea (BA 4?)."
• "The Lochkov Formation consists of two basic lithofacies corresponding to the Kotys Member (light gray, thicker bedded, sparitic limestones) and the Radotin Member (dark, bituminous, platy biomicrites to biosparites with shale interbeds..." "light-colored, thicker bedded, bioclastic limestones containing abundant crinoidal debris..." "...massive banks of biodetrital limestone..."

Collection methods: NB: Trilobites of this Community were already entered in PBDB Collection 10315. Authors give relative abundance data for brachiopods.
