Wióry tracksite (Triassic of Poland)

Also known as Wiory

Where: Swietoryzskie, Poland (51.0° N, 21.2° E: paleocoordinates 19.0° N, 26.8° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Wióry Formation, Spathian (251.3 - 247.2 Ma)

• Dated as early Spathian (late Olenekian) on the basis of the conchostracans Magniestheria deverta Novozhilov, 1946, Palaeolimnadia alsatica detfurthensis Kozur and Seidel, 1983, and Euestheria exsecta Novozhilov, 1946

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: "channel"; fine-grained, medium, red sandstone and brown, red siltstone

• "channels and floodplains of a braided river system"; "Channel deposits are overlain by floodplain sediments with crevasse-splay intercalations. The sedimentary environment was interpreted as a moderately to weakly braided river system."
• "the lower 20 m of the exposed section are comprised of red sandstones and reddish-brown siltstones...Sandstone facies dominate the lower part of the section, within the Wióry Formation, comprising both fine- to medium-grained sandstones, as well as coarse-grained to conglomeratic sandstones. Bioturbation occurs rarely in the form of vertical burrows, whereas paleosols are absent."

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils, microfossils

Preservation: mold/impression, trace

Collection methods: bulk, surface (float), surface (in situ),

• MPT (known also as MNtS), Museum of Nature and Technology (former Museum of History of Material Culture, MHkM) in Starachowice, Poland
