CAS 31318, Panoche Creek (Paleocene of the United States)

Where: Fresno County, California (36.6° N, 120.7° W: paleocoordinates 40.5° N, 101.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Moreno Member (Lodo Formation), Thanetian (59.2 - 56.0 Ma)

• In sandstone layer of formation just above the basal layer of mudstone. Unclear what "Moreno Member" indicates, because the Moreno Formation underlies the Lodo Formation. However, if it is from the Lodo Formation it is presumably from the basal, Paleocene, part.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep-water; lithified, concretionary sandstone

• Foraminifera indicate bathyal depths for the lower part of the Lodo (Stinemeyer, 1974).
• Concretionary sandy masses

Size class: macrofossils
