• The San Luis Rey River Local Fauna of the San Mateo Formation is correlative with the early Hemphillian and possibly latest Clarendonian North American Land Mammal Age (Domning and Deméré 1984), and late Tortonian (Europe/Asia), approximately 7–9 Ma.
