Kahneria was named by Olson (1962). Its type is Kahneria seltina.
It was assigned to Pariotichidae by Kuhn (1966); to Moradisaurinae by de Ricqlès and Taquet (1982); and to Captorhinidae by Olson (1962) and Carroll (1988).

E. C. Olson 1962 | A moderately large captorhinid reptile with multiple rows of palatal teeth and comparable rows in lower jaw. Tooth plates with straight outer margin and crescentic inner margin. Five rows of teeth in upper jaw and four and one-half in lower. Upper tooth plate extended anteriorly into a single series of compressed cones. Lower tooth plate passing anteriorly to short diastema in which lies one or two high, somewhat compressed, conical teeth. Diastema terminated anterior by single, large, conical tooth. Skull and jaws marked by surficial sculpture. Sculpture on lower jaw marked by long, longitudinal ridges and furrows. Sculpture on parietal-squamosal part of temporal region with roughly circular depressions and ridges. |
