Captorhinidae
Taxonomy
Captorhinidae was named by Case (1911) [Family was erected due to the fact that most of Cope's Pariotichus species were more similar to Captorhinus than to the type species of Pariotichus.]. It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Laurin and Reisz (1995) and Müller and Reisz (2006) and Reisz et al. (2011).
It was reranked as the order Captorhinidae by Gardiner (1982).
It was assigned to Pareiasauria by Case (1911); to Captorhiniformes by Hay (1930); to Captorhinomorpha by Kuhn (1946); to Captorhinomorpha by Olson and Beerbower (1953), Seltin (1959), Olson (1962), Olson and Barghusen (1962), Kuhn (1966) and Olson (1970); to Captorhinomorpha by Romer (1945), Stovall (1950), Lewis and Vaughn (1965), Daly (1973), Heaton (1979) and Carroll (1988); to Anapsida by Gauthier et al. (1989); to Captorhinida by Ivakhnenko (2008); to Eureptilia by Laurin and Reisz (1995), Müller and Reisz (2005), Müller and Reisz (2006) and Reisz et al. (2011); and to Captorhinomorpha by Gardiner (1982) and deBraga et al. (2019).
