Taxonomy
Menatotherium insigne was named by Piton (1940). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Menat (Dangeard Bakouline collection, Universite de Lyon 1), which is in a Thanetian crater lake horizon in France.

It was recombined as Plesiadapis insignis by Russell (1967) and Gingerich (1976).
