Belongs to Palaeoproteus according to Herre 1935
Sister taxon: Palaeoproteus gallicus
Type specimen: GM 200, a skeleton (Almost complete specimen about 145 mm total length). Its type locality is Geiseltal, Mittelkohle, Zone III (Middlecoal, zone III), which is in a Lutetian lacustrine lignite in Germany.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Geiseltal, Mittelkohle, Zone III (Middlecoal, zone III)
